Way back in 1954 when the UN specialist Mr. Smith came to Taiwan to help with the steel industry’s technical improvement, I had a conversation with him about Taiwan’s foundry industry then. He felt that the foundry industry fell significantly behind the advanced countries in terms of factory plants, facilities, equipment, techniques, and concepts. He thought that Taiwan should establish a foundry society to bring all local foundry professionals together to work collectively in order to systematically and quickly bring this already lag-behind industry to progressive advancement. Smith also said that foundry societies are found in almost all advanced countries in Europe and America and hoped to establish one in Taiwan as soon as possible. The establishment of a society was unexpectedly difficult though. Smith’s statement did stir up some ripples. However, the organization did not take shape until a dozen years later when the society was formally established on March 22, 1966.

TAMI (Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry) was founded in October 1945 and originally named “Taiwan Association of Iron Industry”. It was then renamed “Taiwan Provincial Association of Iron Industry”. In May 1947, the organization reshuffled and became “Taiwan Provincial Confederation of Machinery Industry”. On April 28th 1948, the name TAMI was officially established and used as Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry from November 1st 2013.

In 1999, TAMI was certified as an ISO9000 organization by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Later in 2018, it was also certified with the “International ISO9001: 2015 Quality Management System "The core policy of TAMI's services follows" Upgrading Our Service and Pursuing Collective Benefits for Our Members".

In recent years, TAMI has intensively conducted numerous machinery export promotion delegations, as well as trade fairs in domestic and international market places.

“TAMINet” was established as a multilingual website geared towards machinery promotion. The website is available in Mandarin Chinese, English and Japanese. This easy to use website is essential in helping company members to offer customer quotes and technical information with just a few clicks of the mouse. “TAMINet” is a business platform that provides machine builders and the satellite companies with the ability to interact each other for sales cooperation and technical discussion. It is also a smart manufacturing forum for both buyers and sellers who wish to acquire up-to-date market information, CE conformity guidance and so on.

“TAMI” greatly helps to increase the competitiveness of all its 2,700 company members in the international market place.

The Philippine Metalcasting Association, Inc (PMAI) is the only trade association of foundries in the Philippines, comprised of 55 member foundries. Majority of the members are located outside the economic zones. While there are many nonferrous die-casting companies operating in the various export processing zones, majority of these serve the casting requirements of automotive and electronics companies that are also located in these zones. Some of them produce directly for export.

The metalcasting industry is changing with the development, adoption, and use of new and improved materials for casting based on the changing properties and performance requirements. Some of the advances in materials technology which are expected to take on new markets are the following: aluminum and magnesium casting with corrosion (inhibiting properties for aerospace, electrical energy and automotive markets); high quality ductile iron with tighter tolerance and controlled microstructure and properties for automotive markets; high alloy steel casting with increased heat resistance for use in pump, valve, furnace and turbine applications; and copper-based alloys as substitute for lead due to environmental concerns.

The industry is also anticipating to engage in activities resulting from the increasing acceptance of new emerging materials and applications in various industries, such as: production of higher value castings from aluminum, steel and ductile iron; manufacture of aluminum and magnesium alloys, due to the general trend in weight reduction in automobiles; applications of titanium castings in aerospace and automotive industries; and the use of aluminum-lithium alloys as casting materials for aerospace to replace components previously made from wrought materials.

The Japan Auto Parts Industries Association (JAPIA) is an industry organization that was established in August 1969, when its predecessor, the Auto Parts Industries Association was reorganized as an incorporated association with a higher level of public interest. Today, the value of shipments of auto parts from member companies has reached approximately 20 trillion yen, supporting the manufacture of automobiles not only in Japan but also around the world.
Each and every one of these high-quality parts makes a significant contribution to the safety and comfort of automobiles. The environment surrounding the automotive parts industry is becoming more and more severe, and the industry is facing many challenges such as responding to structural changes, dealing with environmental issues, and promoting international cooperation.
JAPIA will continue to develop proactive business activities to contribute to the growth of the Japanese economy and society while promoting the sound progress of the "motorized society" through the automotive industry.

◆In 2018 (FY), the automotive related shipments was 60 trillion yen (19% of all manufacturing), of which 26trill. yen (8%) was for automobiles and 35trill. yen (11%) was for auto parts. In terms of employment, the automotive industry as a whole employed 900 thousand people in JAPAN, which accounts for 12% of the total employment in the manufacturing industry, of which 700,000 were in the auto parts industry, accounting for 9% of the total.

◆There are approximately 6,800 companies in the  auto parts industry in Japan, and the number of JAPIA member companies ( 434) ,most of which are in Tier 1, accounted for 6% of the industry but about 60% of the value of shipments .
